A Journey Through the Night Sky: What Planet is Next to the Moon Tonight?

Subtitle 1 – What is the Night Sky?

When the sunsets and night falls, the blanket of darkness can often spark a surreal and mysterious feeling. In the night sky, stars, planets and all sorts of celestial objects twinkle and sparkle while, on a clear night, the silver moon shines down brightly. The stars and the moon make up the night sky – a seemingly endless canvas of mystery and magic.

Subtitle 2 – The Moon

The moon is made up of rocks, dust, ice and some frozen gases, it’s gravitational pull is constantly pulling us closer and further from it depending on it’s varying distance from Earth. It’s icy and dusty grey surface is constantly shifting and changing under the sun’s shadows. This creates a staggeringly beautiful spectacle of sights and colour. The most obvious feature of the moon is it’s 5 main phases, New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous and Full Moon, which can be seen from Earth as it cycles its way around us.

Subtitle 3 – What Planet is Next to the Moon Tonight?

Tonight, as the moon spins it’s way around the cosmos, it will be joined by a spectacular array of stars and planets. Depending on the time of the year, night sky spectators could be privileged to see Saturn and Venus, or the brightest of all planets, Jupiter. You may even catch the faintest of glimpses of the red planets, Mars, as it orbits around the Sun. But if the night is especially clear and the sky is painted with endless stars and planets, you may even be able to view Uranus and Neptune, the most far-off planets from us here on Earth. All of these planets glitter in the night sky, joining the Moon and lending their additional beauty.

So, if you’re looking up at the night sky tonight, take in all its glory and you may just spot a few planets spinning around the moon.
