The Farewell Tour of Country Music Legend Naomi Judd

The Daughter Half of “The Judds”

Naomi Judd, born Diane Ellen Judd, is a country music legend and singer-songwriter. She was one half of the mother-daughter country music superstars “The Judds”, along with daughter Wynonna Judd. Together, they sold more than 20 million records around the world and earned five Grammy awards, and seven number one hit songs.

The Rise of “The Judds”

Naomi and Wynonna Judd rose to success in the early 1980s, releasing their debut album “Why Not Me” in 1984. The success of their second single “Mama He’s Crazy” gave them international fame and sparked a surge in the country music genre. Their 1985 album “Rockin’ With The Rhythm” became a multi-platinum success and won the Country Music Association’s Album of the Year award.

The Breakup of “The Judds”

After a six year career, not only had the Judds earned 51 Top 10 hits, numerous awards and acclaim, but had also become a constant presence on the stage and in the media.

However, Naomi was soon forced to face a devastating decision. In 1991, she announced that she had been diagnosed with Hepatitis C, a chronic and potentially deadly liver ailment. Although it was recommended that she step down from performing, Naomi decided she wanted to “fix my broken part” and continue to tour with The Judds.

The Farewell Tour

In October of 1991, they performed a “Farewell Tour”, a series of performances around the country that lasted all the way until the end of December. They toured, and performed on multiple television programs including The Tonight Show.

Though Naomi Judd was forced to retire due to her medical condition in 1991, she remains a beloved figure in country music and her influence continues to inspire many of today’s more prominent country stars. She has since become a successful author, wrote several books, and has been involved in charity work.

Though she may no longer be on stage performing, Naomi Judd will forever hold a place in music history as one of the most inspiring artists of her time. Her music continues to touch thousands of hearts and her presence will be lost in country music forever.
