Dr. Brenda: The Unsolved Mystery of Dr. Pol’s Vet

As the world has become captivated by the exploits of Dutch veterinarian Jan Pol, better known as the star of Nat Geo Wild’s Dr. Pol, fans from around the world have wondered about the fate of Dr. Pol’s longtime associate and one-time protégé, Dr. Brenda.

Where is Dr. Brenda?

A graduate of Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Brenda Grettenberger worked with Dr. Pol and his family at their clinic on the couple’s Weidman, Michigan, homestead for more than 20 years. During the first few seasons of their show, viewers have grown to know and love Dr. Brenda as much as they have Dr. Pol. But, with the start of the 14th season of the show in 2018, there was suddenly no sign of Dr. Brenda.

Did Dr. Brenda retire?

For years, fans of Dr. Pol have been asking many questions about the mysterious disappearance of Dr. Brenda Grettenberger: Has she retired? Does she still work in the veterinary industry? Where has she gone? And, most of all, why hasn’t anyone been able to find her?

One is that she simply chose to step away from the veterinary industry and retire from a lucrative career in veterinary medicine. Another popular theory is that she experienced burnout after working 18-hour days supplying medical care to numerous animals. For all we know, she could have even relocated out of the United States to another country.

The truth is, we may never know exactly what happened to Dr. Brenda or why she left the show so suddenly. Nevertheless, fans will always remember the passion and care she showed when taking care of the many animals that came through Dr. Pol’s clinic.
