What is DNS?

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a technology used to match human-readable hostnames with their corresponding numerical IP addresses that are used to connect to the internet. Every time a user enters a hostname, such as “www.example.com”, the hostname is translated into a numerical IP address. Without a DNS server, computers would have to connect to each other through numerical IP addresses.

How DNS works
