What is a Phrase?

Subtitle 3 – Other Types of Phrases
In addition to noun phrases, there are also verb phrases, which refer to phrases that include a verb and any other words that help to provide more specifics to the action being described. For example, in the sentence “the cat ran quickly away from the dog”, the verb phrase is “ran quickly”, as it includes the verb “ran” which is modified with the adverb “quickly”. Similarly, adverbial phrases refer to phrases that include an adverb along with other words to provide more information about the adverb. For example, in the sentence “She carefully studied the newspaper”, the adverbial phrase is “carefully studied”, as it includes the adverb “carefully” which is further modified by the verb “studied”.
