What is a Snow Bunny

There’s nothing quite like the winter months to bring out the excitement of snow sports. Whether it’s skiing, snowboarding or snowmobiling, these activities let us explore snowy landscapes as we exercise and enjoy the fresh air. When it comes to winter sports, some of us are dedicated to hitting the slopes as often as our schedules allow – these outdoor fanatics are known as ‘snow bunnies’.

What is a Snow Bunny?

A snow bunny is a winter enthusiast, usually a woman, who loves the snow and takes advantage of every opportunity to partake in winter activities. Snow bunnies might be skiers, snowboarders or snowmobilers, but regardless of the activity, they have a passion for the snowy outdoors.

Snow Bunnies vs. Ski Bunnies

Though commonly used interchangeably, a ski bunny and snow bunny are not the same thing. Ski bunnies often refer to people – usually female – who spend lots of time on the slopes for the beauty and fashion of it. A ski bunny typically does not have a lot of knowledge about the sport, but rather enjoys the scene and atmosphere of the ski resort. A snow bunny, however, is an enthusiast who finds great joy in exploring snowy landscapes and engaging in snow-related activities.

The Origins of the Snow Bunny

Though it is unclear as to when or where the term snow bunny originated, many believe that it first appeared in the 1950s movie “The Eddie Cantor Story”. In the movie, singer Eddie Cantor can be heard singing the phrase, “I’m gonna be the king of the snow bunnies.” It is assumed that the writer was describing someone dedicated to participating in winter sports.

Today, the term is used to describe a winter enthusiast, usually a woman, who has a great love for the snow and often spends a large portion of her free time outdoors skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling or some other snow-related activity.

Conclusion

No matter your skill level or preferred snowy activity, if you have a passion for winter sports, you just may have what it takes to be a snow bunny! So be sure to hit the slopes this season and let the snow bunnies come out to play.
