Dubbed ‘Durwood Theatres’ it was the first ever “multi-screen” theatre, showing multiple films in different auditoriums. By the 1960s, the chain boasted almost 150 locations.
In the late 1960s, the company changed its name to American Multi-Cinema and began to expand quickly across the nation. During the 1980s and 1990s, AMC outperformed its competitors and quickly solidified its position as one of America’s leading movie theatre chains.
