What is Blue Light?

Blue light is a type of visible light that is measured on the electromagnetic spectrum. Blue light can be found naturally in sunlight, but it is produced artificially in the form of indoor lighting, computer monitors, and digital devices like cell phones and tablets. Blue light has shorter wave lengths and the highest energy of all visible light.

What are the Effects of Blue Light?

Exposure to blue light, particularly during the evening and nighttime, can lead to chronic problems such as insomnia, eye strain and headaches. It can interfere with the normal circadian rhythm, suppress melatonin and cause mental and physical fatigue.

How to Protect from Blue Light?

The best way to protect from blue light is to limit screen time and other sources of blue light at night time. Changing the display settings in your computer monitor, or wearing blue-light blocking glasses can also help reduce the effects of blue light. Eating a balanced diet, getting enough sleep, exercising and taking regular breaks from the screen are some other simple actions that can help protect the eyes from the damaging effects of blue light.
