What is Disney Springs?

Disney Springs is the largest shopping, dining, and entertainment district at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. It was previously known as Downtown Disney, and is now separated into four distinct neighboorhoods. Each neighborhood has their own unique character and offerings. In total, there are over 150 stores and restaurants, providing guests with a wide range of entertainment and dining experiences.

The Disney Springs Story

Disney Springs first opened in 1975 as Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village. It featured 11 stores and was the first fully-enclosed shopping center at the Walt Disney World Resort. In 1995, the shopping village re-emerged as Downtown Disney. Since then, Disney has continued to expand its offerings, transforming what was once just a shopping center into one of the world’s most visited destinations for shopping, dining, and entertainment.

The Part of the World it Encompasses

Disney Springs is divided into four distinct neighborhoods: The Landing, Town Center, Marketplace, and West Side. The Landing area offers a waterfront setting reminiscent of Floridian boom-towns from the early 1900’s. It’s home to a variety of upscale dining experiences as well as unique shopping. Town Center is the main shopping district offering a variety of national and local brands. Marketplace houses well known Disney gift stores plus the World of Disney, the largest Disney store in the world. The West Side is the entertainment district and features a variety of performers, including the outdoor amphitheater Home of the Blues. It is also home to popular dining and nightlife options.

No matter where you think to explore in Disney Springs, there is something for everyone. Whether you are looking for a relaxing dinner by the water, shopping for something unique to take home, or looking for a night of entertainment and dancing, Disney Springs has something for you.
