Thanksgiving – A Celebration of Gratitude

Thanksgiving is an occasion traditionally celebrated by Americans and Canadians. It is held on the fourth Thursday of November and is a day of family gathering and homecoming, to thank God for the harvest and good health of the season. American Thanksgiving is more than just an empty tradition. It is an important reminder of how truly blessed we are.

The History of Thanksgiving

The history of Thanksgiving is quite intriguing. According to some historians, its beginnings can be traced as far back as ancient Greece. Thanksgiving as we know it today, however, started as a celebration in the autumn of 1621. It was when the Wampanoag Indians and the English colonists at Plymouth in Massachusetts gathered together to be thankful for the harvest and abundance of the previous year. This harvest gathering was the first Thanksgiving in the United States and would soon become one of the most celebrated holidays in the country.
