What is the biggest dog in the world?

The Biggest Dogs in the World

Introduction
We’ve all heard stories of giant dogs roaming the land and attacking unsuspecting villagers, or even UFOs. But these stories pale in comparison to the size of some of the biggest dogs in the world.

The Tallest
Formerly thought to be the tallest canine ever recorded, Zeus, a Great Dane from Michigan, weighed in an impressive 155 pounds and was 44 inches tall when standing on his hind legs. He was so tall that he was able to place his paws on the counter in your typical kitchen. He passed away in 2014.

However, another Great Dane from the UK named Freddy surpassed Zeus’ record in 2016. He is the tallest living canine ever recorded, standing at an amazing 7 feet and 6 inches when standing on his hind legs. His giant size is attributed to good nutrition and care.

The Heaviest
Rather than competing for height, some canine breeds take pride in how much they weigh. The current record holder for the heaviest dog in the world is an English mastiff named Aicama Zorba. He weighed an incredible 343 pounds in 1989, which is equivalent to the size of a small pony. Unsurprisingly, Zorba was the size of an adult male lion when standing at 6 foot 3 inches on his hind legs.

More recently, Hercules, a Neapolitan Mastiff from Canada, managed to weigh 282 pounds, making him the 18th heaviest dog ever recorded. His owners, Kevin and Cindy Doorlag, fed Hercules a high-quality diet for him to achieve his impressive size.

Conclusion
While Zeus and Freddy, who tried to become the tallest dog in the world, and Aicama Zorba, who tried to become the heaviest, succeeded their deeds have nonetheless been passed on to their successors, who have taken their places in the record books. But, regardless of who holds the records, it’s clear that all of these giant pups are a testament to the fact that dogs come in all shapes and sizes.
