The Weather This Week: Taking Stock of the Forecast

Whether you’re someone who enjoys a nice stroll in the park, lazes on the beach when the sun is out, or plans your outdoor activity around rain showers, knowing what the weather is going to be is essential. Meteorologists, who study and predict the weather, can’t perfectly predict it, as it is an inexact science. But, it helps a great deal to be aware of what the forecast is from place to place.

What to Expect this Week

This week, forecasts are showing a variety of weather patterns taking place across the USA. Coming off a mostly dry day with some sun, Monday’s temperatures generally range widely through the nation. On the East Coast, Tuesday will be a fairly cloudy day with mild temperatures ranging from the upper-30s in some areas, to the mid-50s in the south, and scattered rain showers over the coast and into the mid-Atlantic region for the day. Further south, Tuesday will be mostly sunny and warm throughout, with temperatures in the mid-60s and upper-70s. Wednesday brings some more changing conditions as the mid-Atlantic experiences a mix of rain, ice, and snow that could bring some light accumulation and slick spots.

There’s a Clear Trend for the Midwest

The Midwest will experience widespread rain and snow on Tuesday, with moderate snowfall accumulations possible north of the US-Canadian border into the western Great Lakes. Thursday brings more snow and rain showers to the Midwest and Northeast, with the highest snowfall accumulations in western Michigan. Friday is forecast to be a cloudy and cold day in the Midwest and New England, with temperatures in the 30s and 40s and light rain in some areas. Saturday looks to be a wet and cloudy day across much of the Midwest, with temperatures staying fairly cool in the upper-30s.

Heading West

Things warm up a bit late in the week over the west half of the US, with some high temperatures in the 60s and 70s as far west as Texas. Sun and clouds mix in to Friday and Saturday’s forecast from the west coast to Texas, and the dry capital region of California will see some scattered showers. Then on Sunday, the west coast will dip back into colder temperatures and see some rain and snow in the Rockies, with the north seeing sunnier conditions and temps in the 40s and 50s in the northwest. It should be mostly cloudy and cold throughout the west later in the week.

No matter what you have planned for this week, it’s important to pay attention to meteorologists’ forecasts, keep an eye on the sky, and be prepared for what the weather may bring.
